Car Accidents and Kentucky Law

If you have a car accident in Kentucky, you’d better know a thing or two about the law.  Even a minor fender bender can turn out badly if you don’t know what steps to follow to insure a smooth outcome.  For example, many people do not realize that it’s best not to even speak with the other party involved in the accident until after the police have arrived — and no matter how big or small the accident may seem to be, the police should always be called, even if you don’t call your home security team. Once he is there, the most important thing is that you recount only the exact details of the accident, just as they occurred, without embellishing or leaving anything out.  The officer’s job is to listen to the facts only from all parties involved and from witnesses, and to make a decision as to who, if anyone, is at fault.

Only after these steps have been completed is it okay to request insurance information from the other party.  You are entitled to that information, so do not leave without asking for it.  You will need it to file a claim in not only the case of damages to your vehicle, but also any injuries you might have sustained in the collision.  And always, always go the doctor after an accident and follow his advice exactly.  Some of the kinds of injuries people get from car accidents don’t make themselves apparent for several days or even weeks following impact.
